Apartment, chalet, hotel… How to choose your mountain vacation rental?

Apartment, chalet, hotel… How to choose your mountain vacation rental?

15 Apr 2025
It’s decided: this winter, you're heading to the mountains for a vacation! Skiing! Fondue! Mulled wine! Now there’s just one important detail left: booking your accommodation… Not sure whether to go for an apartment, a hotel room, or even a private chalet just for yourself? Altitude Résidences is here to help you make the right choice based on your meal preferences, vacation habits and desires, accommodation capacity needs, and your expectations (or lack thereof) regarding services.
Le Lodge des Glaciers

A mountain vacation rental that fits your meal preferences and requirements

Staying at a hotel often means eating out for lunch and dinner (even if "eating out" sometimes just means heading downstairs). This can be a real perk for food lovers... but it can quickly become a headache, no matter how much of a foodie you are !

For instance, people with specific dietary needs (gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free, etc.) may find it difficult to locate restaurants that meet their expectations. This is espacially true in ski resorts, where cheese-based dishes reign supreme. Renting an apartment makes it easier to prepare tasty meals with peace of mind, whatever your eating habits may be.

It's also not always easy to take young children to restaurants for every single meal (unless you want to hear them ask for nuggests and fries every time). Renting an appartment allows you to provide them with a balanced diet, even during your moutain holiday.

Not a fan of cooking? No problem! Have a pizza delivered (or order a takeaway raclette) for those lazy evenings when you don't feel like going out or whipping up a healthy meal (don't forget the salad, for your conscience). Bonus: We offer fondue and raclette machines free of charge - just ask at the front desk of the residence!

Furniture and appliances that match your habits and holiday style in the moutains

When you're on a moutain holiday, is your accomodation simply a place to sleep and take a good shower? Do you usually spend your days on the slopes, follow it up with some après-ski at the trendiest sposts in the resorts and then head out for dinner? In that case, a hotel stay will suit you perfectly.

But if you tend to spend part of your vacation indoors (for exemple, if you only ski in the mornings, or need to work around nap times for your little ones), then renting an apartment might be ther better option.

In a hotel, furniture and equipment are fairly limited. In an apartment (or a chalet), you'll have everything you need - just like at home
- A kitchen with a large fridge (sometimes even a wine cooler), stovetop, and
- oven to prepare snacks, drinks, or full meals;
- A living room with a large sofa and table, perfect for board game nights;
- Separate bedrooms from the living area, ideal for your little ones who go to bed earlier than you do;
- And even a fireplace for cozy evenings by the fire (available in Chalet Ancolie and Chalet Charline)!
- That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy nights out if you feel like it! Wild après-ski parties aren’t just for hotel guests ;)

Services: the essentials and the extras

Everyone has their own idea of a perfect mountain holiday! Some dream of being taken care of from morning till night, whithout lifting a finger all week. Others prefer a cosy space where they can recreate a little private nest, a true "home sweet home".

But what if hapiness lies somewhere in between ? Services taht make life easier, combined with the freedom to feel truly at home. Welcome to Altitude Résidences!

When you arrive, your beds are already made and fresh towels await you in the bathroom - just like in a hotel. However, housekeeping only comes on your departure day , so you can let your own charming, organized chaos settle in during your stay.

Panorama apartment

Accomodation that reflects you... and brings you together!

Booking a place for two in the moutains is usually quite straitghtforward: an apartment (or hotel room) with a large double bed is often perfect for a couple (or even a couple with a baby) It's definitely more suitable than a chalet designed for a large groups.

For a small family (parents with two or three young children, for exemple), a moutain holiday rental often means choosing an apartment with a double bed and several bunk beds (guaranteed to create that fun "holiday camp" vibe! An apartment also offers more room for playtime after a day on the slopes compared to a hotel room.

When traveling as a group (friends or extended family), the choice of accomodation depends on how much privacy and independance each person wants.

Planning to gather everyone - 12, 16, or even 18 people? Go for a large chalet rental or a spacious multi-level apartment, ideally furnished for a big shared meals and long, cosy evenings spent chatting on an oversized sofa.

Prefer being close but keeping your independance? Book several apartments (for 4, 6, or 8 people) whithin the same residence. That way, you can all spend the day together on the slopes, then  head "home" to your own space at night-perhaps after sharing a drink in the biggest apartment you booked... all without leaving your fluffy slippers!

Feel free to ask us for advice when booking multiple apartments for your mountains getaway-we know our residences like the back of our hand, and we can recommend units that are close to one another. And don't forget: the earlier you book, the more options you'll have!
So, what about these holidays? Will you spend them in an apartment, a chalet, or at the hotel?
