Traveling in an apartment or in a residence: What’s the difference?

You may have noticed that our accommodations are listed under three categories on our website: residences, apartments, and chalets. Yet we also use the word apartment to describe the fully equipped suites within our residences… So what exactly is the difference between these two types of accommodation? Which should you choose — an apartment or a residence? The choice is yours!

- Our apartments are independent accommodations, carefully renovated based on our personal favorites within buildings that do not belong to us — but are ideally located in Tignes and La Rosière.

- The quality standards are the same as in our residences: top-of-the-line equipment, tasteful decor (sometimes modern, sometimes more traditional), great attention to detail, and convenient access to ski slopes (ski-in, ski-out), activities, and local shops.

- When you stay in an apartment, you are completely independent: no need to check in at a reception desk. Simply collect your keys at [xxx] on arrival day and make yourself at home. You’re free for the entire duration of your stay! Of course, we’re always available by phone should you need any assistance — we’re nearby and can respond quickly if needed.

The advantages of staying in an apartment

Staying in an apartment offers many advantages compared with a hotel.

- Space, first and foremost! Apartments offer generous living areas — perfect for family holidays or getaways with friends (up to 12 guests). Your accommodation isn’t limited to a bedroom: you also get a kitchen, a living room, and more. It’s ideal for kids to play and for adults to enjoy a drink together on the comfy sofas.

- Freedom and independence. Unlike in a hotel, you can come and go as you please — no need to drop off your key at reception every time you leave.

- Flexibility at mealtimes. This is especially valuable for families. No need to get dressed for breakfast in a shared dining room! You can serve up ham-and-pasta every night if that’s the only thing your kids will eat, or order the essentials for a hearty raclette or fondue “at home.” It’s the perfect option for big groups when restaurant reservations are tricky, or for families with young children who can’t sit still and need to stretch their legs mid-meal.

Where to stay in an apartment with Altitude Résidences

We offer independent apartments in Tignes and La Rosière — two renowned ski resorts located at high altitude (2,100 m and 1,850 m respectively), ensuring guaranteed snow coverage in winter. A major plus for skiers and winter sports enthusiasts! You’ll find endless activities nearby — snowshoeing, ski touring, sledding, dog sledding, and more.

Prefer the mountains in summer? Both resorts are just as ideal for a summer apartment holiday in July or August. Enjoy hiking, mountain biking, road cycling, rail sledding in La Rosière, and water sports on Tignes Lake.

And for those who love the mountains off-season, you’ll be pleased to know that all our apartments are open year-round.
Our tip: book a stay in September or October — a quiet, magical time for hiking among golden grasses and glowing larch trees (especially in the second half of October).

Treat Yourself: stay in an apartment with a sauna or jacuzzi

Just because you’re staying in an apartment doesn’t mean you have to give up a little post-ski pampering!

Two of our apartments feature private wellness amenities: Le Belvédère (Tignes Val Claret): a private jacuzzi on the terrace, Le Rosset (Tignes Le Lac): an indoor sauna. Don’t forget your swimsuit — whatever the season!

The ultimate luxury: A mountain view apartment

Dreaming of a mountain getaway but worried about waking up to a view of another building instead of the peaks? Don’t leave your view to chance — make sure it lives up to your expectations before you book!

Our stay advisors know every one of our apartments inside out. They’ll help you find the perfect spot with the best view — whether you prefer a mountain summit, a sweeping valley, or the ski slopes.

Here are a few gems you can choose from when you book an apartment with Altitude Résidences:
- Petite Charline: open views over Tignes Lake, the Tufs, and the Grande Motte
- Le Névé: perched high in the Bec Rouge area, offering unobstructed panoramic views of the entire Tignes resort
- Le Belvédère (Tignes Val Claret): as its name suggests, an apartment with a stunning open view over "Grande Motte"
- Panorama (La Rosière): aptly named, with a large balcony overlooking the Tarentaise Valley
