From what age can you travel to the mountains with a baby?

This is THE question that worries all parents who love mountain holidays: “Is it really safe to take my baby with me to this or that altitude?”
According to Vidal.fr, the reference website for healthcare professionals (and non-professionals seeking reliable information), “Doctors advise against stays above 1,200 meters for children under six months, above 2,000 meters for children under one year, above 2,500 meters for children under two years, and above 3,000 meters for children under ten years.”

Traveling with a baby aged 6 to 12 months? We recommend booking your holiday in La Rosière (1850 m altitude). From one year old, a stay in Belle Plagne (2050 m altitude) is suitable. Finally, from two years old, you can settle comfortably in Tignes (2100 m altitude).
These recommendations are very general; don’t hesitate to consult your family doctor for personalized advice depending on your place of residence, travel habits, etc. (Keep in mind, for example, that babies live year-round in these three resorts without any issues.)

Choosing the right accommodation when traveling with a baby

Traveling with a baby can sometimes be stressful: Will they be able to sleep? Will they be disturbed by this new environment they’re not used to? Will they be cold in the middle of January? We understand these concerns perfectly. That’s why all our residences, apartments, and chalets:
-Are perfectly insulated; even if it’s -15°C outside, you’ll always be warm and cozy inside
-Are soundproofed; enjoy all the benefits of staying in the heart of the resort (close to shops, restaurants, cafés, etc.) without worrying about being disturbed at night by neighbors or nocturnal wildlife wandering the streets of Tignes, La Plagne, and La Rosière
-Are designed to promote restful sleep for all family members (individual bedrooms and sleeping areas separated from the living room and kitchen, comfortable bedding, soft Linvosges sheets, blackout curtains, etc.)

What Equipment to Bring When Traveling with a Baby?

Traveling with a baby can sometimes feel like moving house. Travel cot, high chair, stroller, baby bathtub—it’s hard to do without all this… rather bulky equipment!
Our advice for balancing safety, comfort, and convenience: choose accommodation where some baby equipment is already provided. That way, all you need to pack are your baby’s clothes, favorite comfort toy, and familiar sheets and towels to recreate the reassuring environment of home.
A baby kit is available free of charge in all our residences, apartments, and chalets upon request. It includes a travel cot (already set up in your room upon arrival), a high chair, and age-appropriate tableware. We can also put you in touch with specialized stores to rent additional equipment, such as an all-terrain stroller (especially useful for traveling with a baby in winter and walking on snowy paths).

Which Stroller to Bring When Traveling with a Baby to the Mountains?

Whether you’re visiting the mountains with your baby in winter or summer, we recommend an all-terrain stroller with sturdy wheels capable of handling various surfaces. This way, your walks won’t be limited to paved sidewalks and sunny days.
In summer, you can easily venture onto accessible hiking trails (for example, the 4x4 track leading to Lac de La Sassière in Tignes).
In winter, your strolls gain an extra touch of magic thanks to groomed pedestrian paths set aside from the ski slopes, such as in La Rosière. (We recommend scouting the paths before putting your baby in the stroller: trail conditions can vary in winter depending on snowfall or temperature.)

Traveling with a Baby… Without Giving Up Your Activities!

Mountain holidays are a wonderful way to share your love of nature and winter sports with your little one from a young age. That said, traveling with a baby doesn’t mean you have to give up your favorite summer or winter activities: hiking, mountain biking, skiing… or even relaxing in a Jacuzzi with your partner!
Want a half-day, full-day, or evening getaway for a dinner outing? Our hosts can provide, upon request, a list of babysitters residing in Tignes, La Plagne, or La Rosière. Your baby will surely forgive you for being in expert hands for a little while.

Two Addresses to Reassure You When Traveling with a Baby

The final stretch before vacation: the computer is off, and all that’s left is to load the car. You pick up your little one from daycare… when the assistant informs you that three of the children have runny noses and a virus is going around! For now, yours is cheerful and healthy. But you can’t help watching for early signs of a cold.
Travel with peace of mind: you’ll find a medical clinic and a pharmacy in all the resorts where Altitude Residences operates (Tignes, La Plagne, and La Rosière). Two addresses you hope never to need—but that provide reassurance and calm the parental paranoia when you think you see an imaginary red spot on your baby’s perfect cheeks!
