Vacation Idea: A 4-day long weekend in Tignes to kick off the winter season

Vacation Idea: A 4-day long weekend in Tignes to kick off the winter season

Sept. 25, 2024
Strap on your skis as early as the end of November and enjoy your long weekend at Tignes —where you can ski, take a dip, and dine in a Mongolian yurt! It’s the big new feature for winter 2024–2025: our new gem at the foot of the slopes, the Chalet Hôtel Quartz , is now available for booking for short stays of 3 nights or more. Perfect for kicking off the winter season… while you wait for your next real ski vacation!

Strap on your skis in Tignes , starting in late November

With a ski area reaching an altitude of over 3,450 meters, the Tignes resort is one of the first resorts in the French Alps to open its slopes.

Starting in late November*, strap on your skis at the base of the “ Chalet Hôtel Quartz (Tignes Val Claret), and head to the Tufs or Tichot chairlifts to ease back into it on the blue runs overlooking the frozen lake. Whether you’re making wide turns or short zigzags, take advantage of the lighter crowds early in the season to brush up on your technique before getting down to business!

Once you’ve finished warming up, hop on the funicular, then the Grande Motte cable car (3,456 m). Spend a few minutes at the orientation table to snap a selfie that’ll make your coworkers green with envy back at the coffee machine (the view up there is absolutely breathtaking!). Then tackle the red and black runs on the glacier all the way down to the snowfield at Tignes Val Claret (a 1,200-meter descent—your thighs are going to be on fire!).

Another option that foodies will love: stop halfway up at the mountain restaurant Le Panoramic for a coffee, a sweet treat, or a more substantial lunch (Chef Clément Bouvier’s reputation speaks for itself…).

  • Money-saving tip: Book your ski pass at the same time as your lodging, and enjoy discounts of up to 50%, depending on the time of year.
*The ski area will open gradually, depending on snow conditions.

Soar over the snow-covered landscapes of Tignes on a paraglider

With your skis on, meet your certified paragliding instructor at the summit of Tovière (access via the Tufs chairlift, near the Chalet Hôtel Quartz). He’ll help you get geared up at your own pace (and put any first-timers’ minds at ease) before guiding you down to the takeoff site below via a short descent suitable for skiers comfortable on blue runs.

Ready for takeoff? All you have to do is set off down the slope on your skis at the same time as your guide! In just a few seconds, you’ll feel yourself being carried along by the wing piloted by your partner for the day.

A bird’s-eye view of the snow-covered tuff formations and the frozen lake, discovering new vantage points over the resort and the ski area, taking in the surrounding peaks… and even a few thrills for adrenaline junkies looking for a rush.Kicking off the winter season from the sky is definitely exhilarating…

Dine by the fire in a Mongolian yurt

If we’re going to kick off the winter season before everyone else, we might as well do it right! For one evening, forget about traditional restaurants and head to the trapper camp run by our partner Évolution 2 (near the village of Les Boisses—but shhh, they’ll reveal the exact location when the time comes…).

Far from the resort’s bright lights, you’ll enjoy an aperitif under the stars by the fire before settling in for dinner in the cozy warmth of a Mongolian yurt, a teepee, or a transparent dome. On the menu? Savoyard specialties and local products, of course!

A magical experience that you’ll definitely want to repeat later this winter, when there’s enough snow at the resort to enjoy a long sledding run—with a headlamp—down to the village of Les Brévières, at an elevation of 1,500 meters.

Book all your mountain activities through our trusted partner, Évolution 2.

Enjoy brunch in good company

Pastries, avocado or salmon on toast, scrambled eggs, granola, crusty organic bread with jam, organic orange or apple juice, tea, cappuccino… Before hitting the road again, join your weekend companions at the large, inviting table at Le Pain Quotidien, and take the time to enjoy a brunch that’s both simple and indulgent.

Convenient: This Brussels-based brand, well known to Parisians for the quality of its products, is accessible from inside the Chalet Hôtel Quartz and overlooks the Val Claret snowfront at Tignes !

Throughout your stay, take full advantage of these meal options at breakfast, lunch, and snack time. And even after a day of skiing, recharge with a cheese platter or a slice of toast, for example.

Save time: Order online with the Click & Collect option!
