Self-care: Take advantage of winter to pamper yourself twice as much!

Self-care: Take advantage of winter to pamper yourself twice as much!

Sept. 7, 2023
We’re all familiar with (even if we don’t follow them to the letter) the major current trends in self-care. So yes, meditating is great, and getting some fresh air is wonderful. But “morning routines” that start at 5 a.m. sometimes have their limits—set by our hand reaching out to hit “snooze.” This winter, keep only the best of what REALLY makes you feel good… and double it! You’re worth it ;)

Top-quality cuddles

When you were 2 years old, you spent most of your time in just your underwear because you loved feeling free to move around. As you’ve grown up, you’ve kept that love for breathable fabrics by opting for a very “loose” style in the winter and ultra-light dresses in the summer. You really pamper your skin! A quick dry brush before your shower, a triple dose of moisturizer morning AND night—that’s a ritual you’re never too lazy to follow!

This winter, trade in your beloved favorite lotion… for THE cream of the crop! Treat yourself to a massage with Robin, silver medalist in the 2016 competition for France’s best massage therapist (and based in La Plagne). There’s no doubt that his expert hands will work away those little tensions that have had the audacity to creep up your back (the only spot your own hands struggle to reach during your daily self-massage routine).

A physical activity that really clears your head

Your thing? Sports… high-intensity ones! You did give yoga a try, just to be like everyone else. But you quickly realized that a spin class (during which you lose 3L of water) is much more effective for clearing your head after a day at the office. Because yes, the downward-facing dog pose is great for stretching your legs; but that lovely pose leaves you way too much time to overthink things.

This winter, switch things up: leave your bike behind… and head for the snow-capped mountains! We bet it’ll take your breath away just as much when you tackle your first slopes a little too head-on while ski touring (before you learn to make pretty zigzags in the fresh snow—thanks to those turns!). But here’s the good news: they say the intensity of the joy you feel is proportional to the effort it takes to reach the viewpoint ;)

Are those nagging thoughts still refusing to leave you alone? Try an intensive treatment: a thrill-seeking activity! Chances are , you won’t care one bit about your grocery list once you’re hurtling down the Olympic bobsled track in La Plagne at over 100 km/h, or strapped into your harness at the start of the Bun J Ride jump in Tignes.

And you—what REALLY makes you feel good? And how could you take your “well-being” rituals to the next level to maximize their benefits?

Fulfillment Through Indulgence

You paid close attention in class when you studied Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. And you know full well that eating (well) is a physiological need—fundamental to reaching the top of that pyramid: personal fulfillment, nothing less! For you, the day inevitably begins with a premium coffee (made with freshly ground beans). It continues with lunch—not just a quick bite, but a meal so good it’s finger-licking good. A little lunchbox you lovingly prepared the night before (a quick and easy thing: 2 hours of prep and 25 ingredients max). And it ends with a cocktail dinner with a few friends you’ve invited for what’s supposedly a “casual get-together” (but who are a little awkward, chip bag in hand, standing in front of the artfully arranged platter in the middle of your living room).
This winter, spark your culinary creativity at the table of a Michelin-starred chef! Make the most of your ski vacation to discover new ways to combine the simplest ingredients into a stunning dish. You’ll never look at potatoes the same way again after tasting “Grandpa’s Soup” by Clément Bouvier, chef at the Michelin-starred restaurant Ursus in Tignes
